Coming to BackStage Pass in 2011
Beginning in January - Those Delta Rhythm Kings, The Mickeys, Frog and the Beeftones, MSU College of Music, Thom Jayne and the Nomads, Groove Merchant, Delilah DeWylde, Don Middlebrook, The Verve Pipe.
BackStage Pass is recorded at WKAR Studio A on the campus of Michigan State University.
Those Delta Rhythm Kings
Focusing on jump blues and the little big band sound of the 1940's and beyond, the Kings play the music of legends like Count Basie, T-Bone Walker, Roy Brown, and BB king along with original compositions and modern classics. TDRK won the 2003 Capitol Area Blues Brawl and were competitors at the 2004 Memphis International Blues Challange.
The Mickeys
Hailing from Kalamazoo, Amy Sherman and Julie Peebles are the compelling musical force known as The Mickeys. Identical twins, this striking twosome blends Americana, country and folk music, creating a unique acoustic sound with unbeatable vocals.
Frog and the Beeftones
Blues with a healthy dose of rock ‘n’ roll are served up by the guitar-driven quartet: Frog and the Beeftones. Straight-up, no pretentiousness, sock-to-the-gut rock.
The MSU College of Music
Michigan State University College of Music faculty members Molly Fillmore (mezzo-soprano), Richard Fracker (tenor), Melanie Helton (soprano) and Rod Nelman, (bass-baritone) combine their considerable voice talents to form The MSU Voice Faculty Quartet. Operatic and Broadway show selections are driven by the group’s lilting vocals and take audiences on a soaring journey of the human voice.
Thom Jayne and the Nomads
Okemos’ own Thom Jayne and the Nomads bring their unique fusion of didgeridoos, trumpets, guitars, fiddles and African percussion to BackStage Pass. The Nomads provide a full, amazing world fusion sound.
Groove Merchant
Groove Merchant brings a combination of instrumental jazz, rock, blues and R&B influences to the stage. With selections written by each member, their self-titled CD won the Jammie Award for "Best Jazz Album of 2009."
Delilah DeWylde and The Lost Boys
Looking and sounding like they just stepped out of a 1950s honky-tonk, the award winning Delilah DeWylde and The Lost Boys play country music from a time when quality wasn’t judged by the size of a performer’s hat or boots. Rocking beside her upright bass, Delilah DeWylde embodies the sound of Johnny Cash with an old school attitude.
Don Middlebrook and Living Soul
Parrot Head Alert! Tropic rock is on deck as Okemos’ Don Middlebrook and Living Soul bring their Jimmy Buffet-tinged style to the stage. Don’s music celebrates sun, beaches and sailboats – and perhaps the occasional margarita!
The Verve Pipe
The Verve Pipe has thrived by making music their way, with multiple albums to their credit. Some observers have had trouble categorizing The Verve Pipe’s music, mostly because the band itself has steadfastly refused to be pinned down (their most recent recording is family-oriented!). Acoustic and electric rock led by singer-songwriter Brian VanderArk.
