Weekend Edition Saturday host Scott Simon travels to Oklahoma for a trio of stories from the Sooner State on October 24 and 31.

Is Oklahoma OK?
Saturday, October 24

According to both Forbes.com and USA Today, Oklahoma City defies recession. Scott Simon travels there to discover why this state -- and the city in particular -- is considered to have such a stable ecnomoy. He talkes to a former oil man on the board of an Oklahoma bank, a retired economics professor who pokes holes in the rosy assessment, and the head of a state endowment established to encourage new non-energy based development. Simon also visits a local cutting-eduge prosthetics research and development company.

Oklahoma's Weatherman
Saturday, October 31

Scott Simon profiles one of the country's leading meteorologists, Gary England. England was featured in the movie Twister and has been at News 9 in Oklahoma City for more than 35 years. England is also the commercial weather man credited with issuing the first televised Doppler weather radar bulletin for a tornado and has created a meterology empire in a state that sees a lot of severe weather. Simon interviews England at the station, meets a "storm chaser" out in the field and talks to folks at the National Severe Weather Forecast Center in Norman, Oklahoma.

Raw Food in Cattle Country
Saturday, October 31

A new raw food restaurant and culinary institute has opened smack dab in the heart of cattle country. Scott Simon gets a lesson in how to prepare raw food Oklahoma-style.
