Ira Glass On-Screen in Special Big Screen Event
Fans of Ira Glass and his weekly public radio program This American Life take note: on Thursday, May 1, Glass will bring his widely popular show to the big screen for a one-night only event. The special presentation will feature an exclusive look at never-before-seen extraordinary, funny and true stories from everyday life, show outtakes from the show’s second television season that airs on cable’s Showtime network, and answer previously submitted audience questions. This theater-only event will be broadcast live from New York via satellite to select movie theaters nationwide, including the Lansing Mall Cinemas and Jackson 10, as well as theaters in Flint, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, Saginaw, and Kalamazoo.
WKAR’s Melissa Ingells will be on hand at the Lansing Mall Cinemas to welcome fans to the 8:00 p.m. screening that will be presented in HD and Cinema Surround Sound. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at the theater box offices only for the Lansing and Jackson showings.
Earlier this year, WKAR members also had the opportunity to see Glass in person on March 26 as part of Wharton Center’s World View Lecture series. Glass and WKAR’s Melissa Ingells were enthusiastically greeted by attendees. He intermixed humorous tidbits about the series, including program clips, as he discussed his special brand of storytelling.
Prior to the lecture, WKAR hosted a special reception with Glass for station Producers Circle and Sound Vision Society level donors, where he gave a short talk about the importance of public radio and mingled with guests.
WKAR/AM 870 airs This American Life on Saturdays at 3:00 p.m., with an encore presentation Sundays at noon.
