Annual Food Bank Drive
November 1-December 15 WKAR Radio and Television UPDATE: Thanks to those of you who have so far donated to WKAR’s drive for the Greater Lansing Food Bank. The first load of 87 bags and boxes of food was picked up before Thanksgiving for distribution to area pantries. We’re on target for our goal if you bring your donations to WKAR! Once again, WKAR Radio and TV partner with the Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB) on behalf of the organization's continuing efforts to ensure that the area families' pantry shelves are stocked. This year's drive runs from November 1 through December 15.
Please join us for this annual community food drive by dropping off your donation(s) to the WKAR Food Bank box located in the south lobby of MSU’s Communication Arts & Sciences Building. Parking is available adjacent to the building, at metered spots in the ramp at the corner of Trowbridge and Red Cedar roads.Map to WKAR
This year we hope to top last year’s total of 222 bags and boxes of food by delivering that amount or more to the pantry the food bank designates as most needy on the day(s) of delivery. Last year we were able to make two deliveries -- one before Thanksgiving and the other before Christmas.
GLFB’s “Most Needed” Shopping List Items
Most needed items include highly nutritional articles They include:
Beans, canned (kidney, navy, pinto, pork & beans, refried)
Soup, canned & boxed Snack items: fruit snacks, granola bars, pop tarts Tomato products: canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste
You may also bring personal products such as tissue, soap, shampoo or other items including baby formula or baby food and holiday items.
The Greater Lansing Food Bank has 22 pantries in Ingham County seving an average of 1,800 families (or nearly 6,000 individuals) each month. Of this, 45 percent of those served are children and 41 percent of families are employed.
In addition, the food bank also provides 1.2 million meals to children, seniors, working families and those on a fixed income.
