Meet "Super WHY!" and Mr. McFeely at Free Literacy Event

Children will have the opportunity to meet two public television favorites when WKAR-TV’s Ready To Learn Service joins other members of the Early Childhood Literacy Coalition in offering a community event at Meridian Mall on October 27.

“Everyday Moments are Learning Moments” takes place Saturday, October 27, at Meridian Mall. The event offers stage shows, activities for children and information about early childhood agencies for family members.

Meridian Mall - October 27, 1-4 p.m.;
Stage shows at 1-2:30 p.m. and 2:30-4 p.m.

Meet PBS star “Super WHY!,” storyteller Jean Bolley as the Cat in the Hat, juggler Tim Salisbury, and magician Nate the Great. Special guest is “Mr. McFeely,” the “Speedy Delivery” mailman from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, the long-running series seen on WKAR-TV weekdays at 11:30 a.m.

WKAR’s booth includes an opportunity to view a program clip of the exciting new Super WHY! series. WKAR will also offer those attending a free Super WHY! interactive literacy activity book and bookmark.

More Activities
The October event is part of two weeks of free literacy activities for children birth to five and their families at individual agencies and libraries. A detailed schedule can be found on www.cadl.org.
 
Ready To Learn
The Ready To Learn Service is part of WKAR-TV, a division of Michigan State University Broadcasting Services. In addition to WKAR-TV, Broadcasting Services also includes WKAR-DT; cable stations ‘KAR2, 3, and 4; 90.5 WKAR; WKAR AM/870; Interactive Video Services; Radio Talking Book; and online sites WKAR.org and WMSU.org.


Super WHY! is part of THE Ready To Learn initiative, focused on helping children learn to read, and funded by a cooperative agreement of the U.S. Department of Education, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and PBS. Super WHY! promotion was developed under a grant, #PR295B050003, from the Department of Education.
