Michigan State University’s Broad Art Museum is celebrating its first birthday with an event tonight called GLOBAL.

Since its opening, thousands of people have visited the museum to see not only the contemporary art on display, but to see the building itself. The Zaha Hadid design may always be controversial, but there’s no denying the attention it has received.

Founding director  Michael Rush says the reaction to the museum has been beyond his wildest expectations. The museum has hired the first mainland Chinese curator of contemporary Chinese art at an American museum, and work is underway to bring Chinese works to East Lansing.
