Lansing voters head to the polls next week to decide who will occupy four seats on the city council. They’ll also determine a ballot proposal involving city contracts.

Shelley Davis Mielock is running in the city's first ward against incumbent Jody Washington. We're scheduled to talk with Washington this Thursday.

Current State’s Scott Pohl talked with Davis-Mielock and first asked why she wants to replace Jody Washington and join the council.

Scott Pohl is a general assignment news reporter and produces news features and interviews. He is also an alternate local host on NPR's "Morning Edition."
