East Lansing hoops star Brandon Johns has announced his college decision. The East Lansing High prospect announced via Twitter this afternoon that he will take his talents to Ann Arbor and become a member of the Michigan Wolverines.
The 6-foot-8 power forward is regarded as one of the nation’s top prospects for 2018 and held offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Alabama, Iowa, Cal, Mizzou, Memphis, Xavier, Texas and several other schools.
According to 247Sports.com, Michigan State was at 100 percent in likelihood to acquire Johns while Michigan had as much chance to land Johns as the Patriots had to win the Super Bowl at halftime.
But just like Super Bowl 51, the script completely flipped, and 247Sports had Michigan at 100 percent odds to get Johns, while Spartan nation was praying for a miracle. And at the end of the day, MSU lost out on yet another big time recruit.
Johns' head coach at East Lansing, Steve Finamore said he did not have a feeling that Johns was leaning towards his decision to go to the University of Michigan. Finamore knew that any school out of state never had a chance, maybe except for Kentucky or Duke.
He said schools were showing their interest late and didn't do their homework, but Michigan and Michigan State had been recruiting him for a while.
Johns is a perimeter player who can shoot the ball, and the sky is the limit for him. Finamore said Michigan's style of play is probably what attracted Johns--who likes getting down the floor and shooting threes. Finamore said it's up to the player and responsibility as an athlete to fit in on a team, so he doesn't believe Johns made his decision based on the school being a good fit for him.
Finamore went on to say that Michigan State has good recruits coming in and the Spartans will still be great. As for those Michigan State fans who were hurt and criticizing 17-year old-Brandon Johns, Finamore said the criticism doesn't bother Brandon at all and that he will brush it off his shoulder; Johns doesn't hold on to things from yesterday. Finamore spoke highly of Johns and said he was raised the right way and, he will move on.
