Eight candidates will compete for four Lansing City Council seats in November. They survived the August 8 primary that fielded 24 candidates.
LANSING CITY COUNCIL AT-LARGE SEATS
Voters will choose between four candidates to fill two at-large city council seats.
Lansing School Board member Peter Spadafore won 5110 votes or 23.37 percent in the primary.
Incumbent Kathie Dunbar garnered 4720 votes or 21.59 percent.
Guillermo Z. Lopez, another Lansing School Board member brought in 2947 votes or 13.48 percent.
Michigan State Police First Lt. Kyle Bowman won 1854 votes or 8.48 percent.
LANSING CITY COUNCIL WARD 4
The race for this seat will come down to an attorney and a city parks board member.
Brian T. Jackson, a lawyer and member of the Shabazz Academy garnered 1591 votes or 43.51 percent of the primary vote. He was endorsed by Jessica Yorko, who decided not to run for re-election.
James M. McClurken received 952 votes or 26.03 percent. He is a Lansing Park Board Member who runs a company that works with American Indian tribes on treaty rights issues.
LANSING CITY COUNCIL WARD 2
An union leader faces an incumbent for this city council seat.
Jeremy A. Garza, safety director with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union who serves on Lansing’s Plumbing Board, won 1190 votes or 41.2 percent in the August primary.
Tina Houghton is seeking re-election after eight years representing Ward 2. She won 660 votes or 22.85 percent.
