Lansing and Jackson will usher in the holiday season tonight with parades and tree lightings.
Many streets around downtown Lansing will close Friday at 4:00 p.m. for the annual Silver Bells In The City celebration.
At 6:00 p.m., dozens of colorful and electrified floats and marching bands will parade thru downtown followed by the lighting of the Capitol Christmas Tree – a 60 foot spruce from Alpena.
Organizers say there will not be fireworks this year because of ongoing construction at the Capitol.
To the south – the downtown Jackson Christmas Angel parade also starts at 6:00 p.m.
A tree lighting at Consumers Energy headquarters will follow.
Best news - meteorologists say there will be no snow or rain during the parades.
