Governor Snyder To Air First Ad Of 2014 Campaign

The first campaign ad in the race for Michigan governor will start airing Wednesday.

As we hear from The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Rick Pluta, Governor Rick Snyder is launching his ad campaign before he’s formally announced he’s a candidate.

The new ad…

“It’s a nerdy job, but someone has to do it.”

…airs with more than a year to go before the 2014 election. This ad debuts even earlier in the election cycle than last time around, when Snyder was almost unknown and used the Super Bowl to launch his “One Tough Nerd” spot.

Even though his reelection campaign is airing ads and circulating petitions to put him on the ballot, the governor insists it’s still too early to consider him a candidate.

“I’m not an announced candidate,” he says.  “I’m happy being governor and I’m focused on being governor.”

Democrats say the early ad buy shows Republicans are already worried. Former Congressman Mark Schauer is running as the Democrat to face the governor next year.
