Convicted former Michigan State University sports doctor, Larry Nassar, will not get a new sentence – for now.
Nassar was sentenced to at least 40 years in prison for sexually assaulting 7 former patients under the guise of medical treatment.
But at his sentencing, more than 100 women came forward to say that Nassar also sexually assaulted them.
Jacqueline McCann is one of Nassar’s attorneys.
She said Judge Rosemarie Aquilina was biased against Nassar during sentencing.
“There’s a lot of talk these days about whether or not anyone is above the law," said McCann. "But I would say the corollary to that is no one is beneath the law. Not even Doctor Nassar.”
But Judge Aquilina said Nassar was sentenced fairly.
“What he’s asking for now is continued control like he had control over those girls. He wants to control his sentencing, he wants to reenact whatever decisions he made, because of the buyer’s remorse.”
Nassar’s attorneys are appealing Aquilina’s ability to even decide Nassar’s sentencing.
They’ve filed a motion with the Court of Appeals to have her removed from the case.
