Michigan Treasury Department responds to criticism over tax collecting

via flicker

Last Sunday’s Lansing State Journaltore into the state Department of Treasury over its alleged inability to collect delinquent tax revenue.

In a story by investigative reporter Steven Reed headlined “Tax Cracks,” Reed wrote that since 2000, Treasury has had to write off more than 2 billion dollars in delinquent taxes owed to the state.  He, and others in the story, suggests that oversight and accountability regarding tax collection are weak.

Terry Stanton is a spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Treasury, who joins Current State to respond to the article.
