A Michigan State University football player has been formally charged with sexual assault following an April 9 incident in Meridian Township.
MSU sophomore defensive lineman Auston Robertson is charged with third degree criminal sexual conduct.
The charges were filed by the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office in the 55th district court in Mason.
Robertson was the fourth player suspended from the MSU squad this year. Three others were suspended in February as part of a separate sexual misconduct investigation. Robertson is the only player so far to be publicly named.
The prosecutor’s office declined to comment on specifics beyond the formal charge, and the investigation remains open.
If convicted, Robertson faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
