Okemos defeats Lansing Homeschoolers for QuizBusters Grand Championship

EAST LANSING, MI; June 2, 2017 -- In a QuizBusters championship series of games seen on WKAR TV over the weekend [Saturday, 5/27/17], the Okemos Chieftains defeated the Lansing Homeschoolers Chargers to take home the title of QuizBusters Grand Champion for 2017.  

In the first of three games, the Green Division Final, the Okemos Chieftains defeated the Holt Rams by a score of 550 to 320 to move on to the final game. 
In the White Division Final, the Lansing Homeschoolers Chargers defeated the Fulton Pirates by a score of 520 to 180 to move on to the Grand Championship match-up. 

 
In the the Grand Championship final game of the season, Green Division champion Okemos Chieftains defeated White Division champion Lansing Homeschoolers Chargers by a score of 410 to 230. 

 
Playing on the team for the 2017 Grand Championship Okemos Chieftains were Noah Burns, Justin Bi Sarod Nori and team captain Ricky Li. Andy Floyd is the team advisor. 

 
Playing on the team for the 2017 White Division Champion Lansing Homeschoolers Chargers were Nicholas Gadola Holmes, Markus Biewer, Nicholas Demerly and Isaac Van Loh team captain. Jeffrey Winter is the team advisor.

Playing on the team for the Holt Rams were Chris Jacobs, Tanner Therying, John Berney and team captain Nick Guilfoyle. Dave Hildebrandt is the team advisor. 

 
Playing on the team for the Fulton Pirates were Reed Warnke, Katey Salogar, Kanyon Sherrick and team captain Lauren Jernstadt. Graham Salogar is the team advisor. 

 
The two Division Championship teams each receive up to four $5,000 tuition scholarships to Michigan State University. The Grand Champion team receives five one-year textbook scholarships provided by the Student Book Store. Teams are divided into Green and White Divisions based on the size of the school, with the largest schools in the competition making up the Green Division, smaller schools in the White Division. 

 
High school students from over 60 Michigan schools have been seen competing on WKAR-TV since October to reach the QuizBusters Championship Series.
