The Raising of America - An Evening with WKAR

FREE – Thu. Mar.  24 , at 7 p.m. | How might the nation better assure the conditions all young children need for a strong start?  Join us for a film screening and community conversationRESERVE SEATS HERE How might the nation better assure the conditions all young children need for a strong start? Join us for An Evening with WKAR featuring a film screening and community conversation around the new documentary series, "Raising of America."

The evening begins with a screening of  "Wounded Places," a moving and disturbing episode from the acclaimed series. "Wounded Places" illustrates how children and youth living in disinvested, impoverished neighborhoods suffer a kind of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder that can limit their opportunities for a lifetime.

A panel of experts on early childhood development as well as parents who have experienced the type of trauma portrayed in the film will share their thoughts, and the audience will be invited to engage in dialog on ways to respond as a community to the needs of young children.

This viewing and dialog is co-sponsored by Michigan Power to Thrive, a network of local health departments and community organizers working together for social justice.
