Starts Monday! Current Sports with Al Martin

portrait: Al Martin
WKAR

Current Sports with Al Martin premieres Monday, May 13 at 1 p.m.  The new radio talk show from WKAR tackles sports topics in depth, with special guests and listener interaction, while exploring new ground.

"I really see sports talk evolving," Martin says. "I want this show to go beyond the Xs and Os.  I want to dive deep into topics that can be relatable to anyone. ANYONE."

Among the topics ahead in the first week will be concussions in sports and the business of sports.

"Would you let your child play physical sports knowing the new information out there about concussion risk?" he asks. "Why is there a lack of African Americans in the game of baseball today and what has diverted their interest over the years? Why do so many athletes end up broke when their careers are done? Those are topics that go beyond your typical Xs and Os," Martin says.

Select segments from Current Sports with Al Martin will be featured during Current State and Morning Edition broadcasts on 90.5 FM.
