Tim Skubick Inducted into Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame
Tim Skubick, WKAR’s senior capitol correspondent and host of Off the Record, the longest running Michigan political affairs and analysis program on television, was inducted into the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame on Sunday, April 27. He has been the sole host and producer of the widely acclaimed WKAR series since 1972.
Among those “cheering him on” during his induction was former Michigan Governor William Milliken and Helen Milliken, both of whom Skubick has interviewed in the past. (The Millikens is available online here.) Others in attendance included fellow OTR correspondents and WKAR staff.
In addition to producing OTR and anchoring other WKAR public affairs programs, including talks with every Michigan governor since the 1970s, election specials and investigative reports, Skubick also provide political coverage for WILX-TV, WWJ NewsRadio in Detroit, Michigan Radio network, and files a syndicated weekly political analysis column for newspapers statewide and writes for the Lansing-based Michigan Information and Research Services (MIRS) newsletter. He has authored two books about Michigan politics.
Skubick has been honored with multiple Michigan EMMY and Michigan Association of Broadcasters awards and received the prestigious Silver Circle Award for lifetime achievement from the Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Timothy Zeko, WKAR’s executive producer said in his introduction of Skubick at the induction ceremony, “He has the courage to ask the difficult questions and probe the sometimes uncomfortable truth,” adding that even after all these years, the colleagues with whom Skubick works at WKAR still do not know his own personal political affiliation or leanings.
The Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame recognizes reporters, editors, publishers, owners, designers, photographers, cartoonists, broadcasters, videographers, and educators who have made outstanding contributions to the profession. Since 1985 the Journalism Hall of Fame has continued the tradition of honoring journalists begun in 1952 by the Michigan Newspaper Hall of Fame.
