A former national security advisor will take on the Republican incumbent in the race for the 8th Congressional District which runs from Lansing to Detroit. 


Detroit-area businessman and Iraq War veteran John James has won the Republican nomination to run against Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow this fall.

Republican Bill Schuette and Democrat Gretchen Whitmer will battle it out for the governor’s seat in November. Libertarians also had a choice for governor on the primary ticket, for the first time in Michigan’s history.

Ex-Offenders Can Vote In Michigan

A prison reform advocacy group says formerly incarcerated people do have the right to vote in Michigan.

The Michigan primary is fast approaching. Democrats and Republicans will head to the polls on August 7th to decide who they want to represent their party in the November governor’s race. Three democratic candidates hope they’ll be chosen, and money – and the television ads it buys – has played an interesting role in the Democratic race so far.


The Republican candidates for governor have been battling it out for months. There’s more money being spent on the Republican primary than recent years– and it’s being used to help the candidates go after each other.

Voters in Ingham County will be deciding on a ballot proposal to replace the 54-year-old county jail when they go to the polls in August. WKAR’s Katie Cook reports.

New voting machines in Michigan may cause problems for residents with a visual disability.

Michigan voters this fall will get to decide whether to change how their state's congressional and legislative districts are drawn, the state Supreme Court ruled late Tuesday.

The Board of State Canvassers has delayed a vote on a pair of ballot initiatives – over a timing issue. The meeting got contentious today. That’s because a group opposing proposals to increase the minimum wage and require earned sick time, said the board had to wait one more day to vote.

More than a dozen people are vying for two open Michigan State University Board of Trustees candidates spots. On Tuesday, the APA, MSU’s union for administration professionals held a "meet-and-greet" to give members the opportunity to learn about the candidates.
