Hayden Remembers 50th Anniversary of Port Huron Statement

Fifty years ago this weekend, a group of students at a Michigan camp finished writing the Port Huron Statement, which was the manifesto for the activist group, Students for a Democratic Society. The principle author was Tom Hayden, who continued his activism throughout his life as well as being a legislator, teacher, and editor. WKAR's Melissa Benmark spoke with Hayden about the occasion.

Mosquito Population Not As Bad As Feared...Yet

MSU entomologist Howard Russell says it hasn't been a bad year for mosquitoes, but there's still time for hot, wet weather to produce more of the biting bugs.

At the end of our mild winter, there were predictions that 2012 would produce a nasty crop of mosquitoes in Michigan. For the most part, it hasn’t played out that way.

WKAR’s Scott Pohl spoke with MSU entomologist Howard Russell, who says it hasn’t been a bad year for mosquitoes yet, but that depends on your location.
