She danced for eight years, but in middle school, Franklin decided that she needed more of a challenge. Six years later, and Franklin is one of the top track athletes in the state and Michigan State bound next season.

On Thursday night both the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame and Okemos High School Hall of Fame ceremonies took place. In total, 19 individuals got the chance to see their names enshrined into sports lore. Names like Don Behm, Trevor Harris, Travis Bader, and even the late Mike Sadler are mentioned throughout this report.

Over the last three years on their road to the State finals, the girls have lost to East Grand Rapids - twice in the semifinals and once in the State finals. EGR is the four time defending state champion, with their streak dating back to 2012.

LANSING, Mich. – Julius Edwards has always loved the game of basketball. And he’s also always wanted to help put youth in the right direction. Little did he know that life would lead him down an unexpected path that combined both of these interests.

“When I first got into coaching I didn't get into coaching for the basketball part of it,” said Edwards. “Well, part basketball, but the main part of it was to help out young men and send them in the right direction. My main focus was on inner city youth.”

The Okemos varsity girls basketball team gained a new leader this season, in the form of freshman star point guard Laya Hartman. She is only 14, but is already averaging 19 points per game against older and more experienced players.
