Almost Five

Ann Arbor, Mich. ----- It was a back and forth football game with muggy weather on Saturday, as the Michigan State Spartans took on the Michigan Wolverines at The Big House.  The Spartans attempted to win their fifth straight game against the Wolverines.

The Wolverines won the battle in the first half, going into the locker room with a 6-0 lead.  Both teams were eager to see the light in a first-half touchdown, but it never came in full circle.

The first half was highlighted with University of Michigan running back Fitzgerald Toussaint, tacking on a 38-yard run, which led to a Brendan Gibbons field goal.

MSU came firing back in the second half, scoring the first and only touchdown of the game on an Andrew Maxwell 2-yard touchdown pass to tight end Paul Lang.

After a Michigan State hold on defense and subsequent offensive momentum driving down the field, Andrew Maxwell threw an interception late in the third quarter.  The turnover led to a Michigan field goal, taking a 9-7 lead.

As a slight glimpse of sun shined into the stadium during the fourth quarter, the Spartans tacked on a 19-yard Dan Conroy field goal to steal the lead back 10-9.  The game closed by a drive led by Denard Robinson, who completed an eight play 41-yard drive, leading to a game winning field goal by kicker Brendan Gibbons.  He was 3-3 for the day.

Leading the Spartans on the day was quarterback Andrew Maxwell, who completed 21-34 of his passes for 192 passing yards.  Linebacker Denicos Allen totaled 11 tackles for the game, three of which were for losses.

The Spartans now fall to a 1-3 record in the conference, and 4-4 overall.  This marks the first victory versus Michigan State since 2007 for the Wolverines, as well the 900th victory in program history.
