WKAR Radio station manager Peter Whorf will host 90.5 Classical on Wednesday, October 3, from 10-12 with special guest Timothy Muffitt, Music Director and Conductor of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra.
The two will preview the Lansing Symphony Orchestra's 2012/2013 through discussion and various recordings. Some of Maestro Muffitt's favorite compositions will be included in the segment.
More than 80 people attended WKAR's first Community Cinema event held on Thursday, September 27, at WKAR. The topic of the first discussion was Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide.
Did you know that this week WKAR's Public Media Facebook page is hovering at nearly 2,000 friends who "like" the page? This is by far our page with the most "likes," but it certainly isn't our only one!

Every four years, a group of the finest young pianists takes the stage at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas. In the midst of the drama, the beauty, the nerves and the excitement, they know one thing is true — what happens there can change their lives. They strive to feel the joy of victory and achieve their utmost goal: to become a performer on the world stage. The Cliburn: 50 Years of Gold airs Friday, September 28, at 9 p.m. on WKAR.
You may have noticed WKAR is busier than ever, with frequent screenings, like last night's Call the Midwife. Thanks to all who came — we hope you enjoyed the show! Our “Evening at WKAR” events have been a huge hit, so I am especially excited to announce our newest initiative, kicking off next week.
Our Evening at WKAR presentation of Call the Midwife attracted more than 75 guests who laughed and yet were touched by the moving first episode of the new PBS series. Call the Midwife premieres Sunday, September 30, on WKAR.
When WKAR station manager Susi Elkins asked "What do you think?" after the screening, there was plenty of audible approval and conversations with guests after only reinforced that fact.
