Dozens of schools across southern Michigan were closed Monday in hopes of curtailing the spread of swine flu.
As of 11 a.m. Monday, state and local health officials reported 45 probable cases in Michigan.
The largest concentration is in Kent County, which is reporting 18 probable cases.
They're waiting for the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to confirm the results, although state-level testing its expected to begin soon.
Four probable cases have led to the closing of 24 schools in the 19,000-student Plymouth-Canton Community School District in Wayne County -- one of the state's biggest.
Two cases already have been confirmed, one each in Livingston and Ottawa counties.
Fowlerville High School was notified of one probable case on Sunday.
That student has a sibling who also attends the high school.
The sibling has not been diagnosed.
The district is awaiting word on further tests from the CDC.
Those results will determine whether Fowlerville High School will remain closed for the rest of the week.
About 900 students attend the school.
