Obama may announce Supreme Court pick as early as Tuesday

By AP

(Washington, DC) – Washington, DC (AP) - The White House is preparing to announce President Barack Obama's pick to replace Supreme Court Justice David Souter. Those involved with Obama's decision hint that it could come as early as tomorrow.

The six people known to be under consideration include Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm. Her name surfaced shortly after Souter announced he was retiring at the end of the current term, but Granholm has downplayed the reports. The 50-year-old Democrat says she'll finish her second four-year term as governor. Granholm has said the White House doesn't want a governor, but a judge -- a job she's never had.

Obama's choice is expected to be confirmed, given the Democratic majority in the Senate.
