LCC plans 30 layoffs

By Scott Pohl, WKAR News

LANSING, MI (WKAR) – LANSING, MI (WKAR) - The administration at Lansing Community College is proposing the layoffs of 30 people, to help meet a multi-million dollar budget shortfall.

A projected deficit of more than $9,000,000 has been trimmed to $3,300,000.

No faculty cuts are planned. Instead, administrators and supervisors are being targeted.

The Lansing State Journal reports that about 100 employees picketed last night's LCC Board of Trustees meeting. They argue that using more of the school's fund balance would prevent layoffs.

The administration is also freezing the pay of top administrators, and limiting expenses for travel.
