Pontiac fest to go on without Chrysler as sponsor

By AP

PONTIAC, MI – The annual Arts, Beats & Eats festival in Pontiac is looking for new funding after getting word that Chrysler, its main sponsor in past years, won't be funding the
event this year.

The Oakland Press, the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News report Monday that organizers say the event still will go on Sept. 4-7.

Chrysler LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection April 30. Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson says the loss of funding was expected, since the festival isn't part of the automaker's core services.

Jon Witz, festival producer, says Auburn Hills-based Chrysler previously provided $350,000 for the event, which costs more than $1 million. Chrysler had been part of the festival since its start in 1997.
