Chrysler to restart 7 assembly plants

DETROIT – DETROIT (AP) - It's back to work today for employees at seven Chrysler assembly plants.

The Auburn Hills-based automaker had shut down all of its factories during its six weeks in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Chrysler says the plants resuming operations today are in Sterling Heights and Warren, Mich.; St. Louis; Toledo, Ohio; Brampton and Windsor, Ontario; and Toluca, Mexico. A Detroit plant that makes the Dodge Viper sports car went back online
earlier this month.

Chrysler says the eight assembly plants that are restarting employ about 15,000 workers.

The automaker says the parts stamping, engine and transmission factories that feed those plants also will restart today.
