Senate Majority Leader calls for more transparency from Governor

LANSING, MI – State Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop says Governor Granholm should make her revenue proposals public.
Bishop says the governor gave legislative leaders in closed-door budget negotiations a list of ways she thinks the state could collect more money through taxes. Bishop says if the Senate's proposals for program cuts are public knowledge, the governor's revenue list should be as well.
"You know we've got a lot of discussion, a lot of protests going on with the cuts, but the public needs to know what the flip side of that is," he says. "If you don't want the cuts then you have to consider the options and until they know what the options are it's not a fair fight."
State Budget Director Bob Emerson says Bishop has already made the governor's ideas very public. He says her proposals will be disclosed when they are more concrete.
