DETROIT, MI –

At one of the entrances to the Cobo Center in Detroit, the first display people attending the North American International Auto Show will see is a booth for the Michigan State University Formula Racing Team.

The team of collegians is affiliated with the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Members get to do more than work on racecars; they also spend time with industry bigshots and car fanatics.

WKAR's Scott Pohl was at the auto show press preview last week, and he talked with Scott Smith of Troy, Michigan. He's the MSU team's 'brakes team' leader.

He signed up during his first week on campus as a freshman. Now, he's a sophomore studying mechanical engineering at MSU.
