Attacks spring up in Mich. GOP governor's race

If the attacks taking place in the Republican governor's race so far are any indication, the five-way contest could soon become a brawl.

Radio ads, billboards and automated calls to voters have been launched by an independent group in Macomb County against Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard and Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder.

U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra's campaign on Friday asked Attorney General Mike Cox, who's also a GOP gubernatorial candidate, to investigate the legality of radio ads being run against him by a Delaware group, Eagle Strategies.

A Hoekstra campaign attorney says in a letter to Cox that "shadowy attacks from secretive organizations" shouldn't have a place in Michigan elections.

A call to Cox's office Friday was not immediately returned.
