LANSING, MI –
The state House approved a set of bills that would require clinics and hospitals to provide information about emergency contraception to women who have been sexually assaulted. The next-morning pill prevents egg fertilization.
Democratic state Representative Rebekah Warren sponsored the measure. She says preventing unwanted pregnancies will save the state money.
"What we're looking at right now is we're looking at a state in economic crisis," she says. "And we're for the first time I think serious about prevention methods that help save us money down the road.
Anti-abortion groups are neutral on the issue.
