East Lansing Democrat running against a name only

By AP

The only Democrat running for Congress in Michigan's 8th District doesn't appear on the primary ballot.

Lance Enderle entered the race after Kande Ngalamulume dropped out last month.

The problem is Ngalamulume exited the race after the deadline, meaning his name still appears on the ballot for the Aug. 3 primary. That leaves Enderle running against someone who isn't running. And he has to hope enough people write his name on the ballot and know Ngalamulume no longer is an option.

Still the 41-year-old laid-off teacher from East Lansing feels good about his chances in what he calls one of the "wildest campaigns in Michigan political history."

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers of Howell is running unopposed on the Republican side.
