HIGHLAND PARK, MI – Highland Park's mayor says he's asking the Detroit enclave's school system to cancel classes Monday because of the lingering effects of a water system failure that led to fears of contamination.
Highland Park lost water pressure Friday, leading to a boil order because of the risk that disease organisms might infiltrate the drinking water system.
Repair crews have been able to restore pressure, and authorities tell the Detroit Free Press that the boil order is being lifted at 5 p.m. Sunday.
An aide to Mayor Hubert Yopp told The Associated Press in an e-mail Sunday that because of the water emergency and "for precautionary measures," Highland Park is recommending that schools remain closed Monday.
