Lansing, Michigan – For the fifth time the Spartans and the Lugnuts got together to play the cross town showdown at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The Lugnuts lead the cross town series three to one, after a close win last year against the Spartans five to four.
This year the Spartans jumped out to an early lead as Brandon Eckerle scored on a wild pitch by the Lugnuts starting pitcher Drew Hutchison. The Spartans led one to nothing after one inning.
There was no scoring in the game until the top of the 4th inning. That's when the Spartans added to their lead with a RBI single by Joel Fisher. Taking a two to nothing lead, which would stand until the ninth inning.
In the bottom of the ninth the Lugnuts would finally get on the board. Center-fielder Markus Brisker walked to open up the ninth inning for the Luggies. Then Brisker would advance to third on a wild pitch. Jack Murphy would ground out on a fielder's choice play which allowed Brisker to score the lone run for the Lugnuts.
Michigan State would hold on to win by a score of two to one. The Spartans have won two of the last three against the Lugnuts.
