State rep wants to cut MSU funding

By Rick Pluta, Michigan Public Radio Network

LANSING, MI –

The Republican chair of the state House higher education budget subcommittee has sponsored legislation to cut the budgets of Michigan State and Wayne State universities.

Governor Rick Snyder's administration has ruled the universities are abiding by the letter of a tuition restraints law in the new state budget. But state Representative Bob Genetski says the universities gamed the system and are violating the intent of budget language that was designed to help keep tuition affordable for students.
