Controversial Keystone KL Pipeline To Be Rerouted

(SOUNDBITE OF MUSIC)

RENEE MONTAGNE, HOST:

NPR's business news starts with rerouting the Keystone XL pipeline. The Canadian company that wants to build an oil pipeline from Alberta to the Gulf of Mexico, now says it will shift the route of its controversial pipeline. The announcement yesterday came after President Obama said he would delay a decision to approve the $7 billion project. Nebraska residents, in particular, are concerned about the pipeline running through an environmentally sensitive area, and possibly contaminating critical water supplies. The company says the revised route will still go through Nebraska, but will go around the vulnerable Sandhills area. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
