April 16th, 2020 marks the inaugural Public Radio Music Day. Stations across the U.S. will be celebrating our local music makers. We at WKAR also want to know how these artists are doing during this very difficult time. The following is the interview Jody Knol made with the Music Director of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra which aired on WKAR April 16th at 10am.
Maestro Timothy Muffitt on how COVID-19 has impacted him, the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, and his scheduled final appearance before departing the Baton Rouge Symphony in Louisiana where he also directs. Plus, his anticipation of how the concert halls will feel a boom as people want to go out again, but until that time, Maestro Muffitt and his Michigan ensemble have launched LSO At Home, with several opportunities for the mid-Michigan community to still be engaged with the music and musicians.
At the end of this interview, we also asked Maestro Muffitt for an inspiring piece of music, and he chose the middle quartets of Beethoven.
