Wellness Weekends Series: Sharpening the Focus

Wellness Weekends Series: Sharpening the Focus

Wellness Weekends are monthly experiences meant to stimulate the senses and soothe the soul. Registration for Wellness Weekends is required. Register for free here.

This month, come to the museum for Sharpening the Focus—an art therapy workshop to celebrate the things that make our lives meaningful.

Join Autumn Heddy-Reed, LMSW, MEd, ATR-BC in creating a two-dimensional collage. The unique and challenging events of the last two years have shifted our perspectives and sharpened our focus on the things we hold most dear. This art therapy workshop provides an opportunity to celebrate these things, whether they have been made clear to us during experiences of loss and grief, contemplative time with ourselves, or connection with others. Together, we will view the exhibition Kahlo Without Borders and consider the things and people that made Frida Kahlo's life meaningful and provided light and hope during challenging times. We will also briefly view the portraits and landscapes of History Told Slant, considering the artists’ expression of truth, identity, and meaning. You are invited, but not required, to bring photographs, postcards and greeting cards, paper products, or other two-dimensional media to honor the things and people that make your lives meaningful.

Autumn Heddy-Reed is a Board Certified and Registered Art Therapist and a Licensed Master Social Worker who has been supporting children and families through trauma-focused interventions for over a decade. Autumn also received her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a minor in Art History and is passionate about the power of the arts to promote emotional, spiritual, and physical healing.

Kahlo Without Borders and History Told Slant are on view through Aug. 7, 2022 at the MSU Broad Art Museum.
