Girls on the Run is a non-profit that not only inspires girls to become independent thinkers, but teaches them healthy exercise habits. For Neighbors in Action, we speak with the director and one of the coaches that works with the Mid-Michigan chapter to find out how they do it.

Society throws a lot of messages at girls from the time they’re very young. It can be beneficial for them to have a place to go where they can form friendships with each other, learn, share, and be supported.

Girls on the Run is a non-profit geared toward girls in the 3rd through 8th grades. Their mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

The Mid-Michigan chapter of Girls on the Run started in 2007 in Shiawassee county, and they’ve since expanded into Ingham, Eaton, Clinton and Genesee.

For Neighbors in Action this week, we talk with the director of Girls on the Run in Mid-Michigan, Stephanie McClintock, and Megan Tressel, a volunteer coach with the non-profit, whose daughter has also been in the program.
