For Neighbors in Action this week, we find out about the Young Entrepreneurs Academy, a program of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce that teaches students how to start and run their own businesses.

Small businesses are crucial to the American economy, so why not equip our youth with the skills and knowledge to start their own? The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) does just that, by teaching and mentoring middle and high school students all over the country.

The local chapter of YEA! is in downtown Lansing at the Michigan Chamber of Commerce.

For Neighbors in Action today, Current State talks with the local program manager, Anita Lindsay, volunteer mentor Liz Breed, and Tripp Gallagher, a student who went through the YEA! program last year.

Current State is always looking for more nominations for our “Neighbors In Action” feature. Please help us out and e-mail us your suggestions to currentstate@wkar.org. Put ‘Neighbors in Action’ in the subject line. Or tweet us: @KARCurrentState and tell us a little about why you think they should be featured.
