Hundreds of gallons of motor oil and hydraulic fluid made their way into the Grand River in Jackson last weekend. Environmental crews have gathered there to clean it up while officials investigate.
On Monday and Tuesday of this week, workers recovered about 400 gallons of fluid.
Current State talks with Ken Mroczkowski, a water resource analyst at the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. He says the two most likely causes are either fluids being dumped into a storm water drain or a rupture of an underground storage tank.
Current State also talks with Todd Knepper, the City of Jackson’s Director of Utilities. He says there is not much oil left in the collection points, and the cleanup crews prevented most of the fluids from continuing into the Grand River.
