Michigan maps out 30-year water plan

Current State talks with Jon Allan of the Department of Environmental Quality about the plan to protect one of the state’s most treasured natural resources.

From the Great Lakes to the millions of acres of wetland, Michigan is as close to a freshwater paradise as you can get. Our aquatic ecosystems provide habitat to an incredibly diverse array of plants and animals. And we humans get some enjoyment out of them too as anyone who’s spent a summer day at Lake Michigan can attest. But the state’s rich water resources aren’t immune to threats. From algae blooms to climate change, Michigan waters face a potentially challenging future.

That’s why the Department of Environmental Quality put together a new report that lays out a 30-year strategy to protect one of the state’s most treasured natural resources.

Current State talks with Jon Allan, who directs the Office of the Great Lakes for the DEQ, about the plan.
