HIV Testing Available On Wednesday; Many Michiganders Don't Know They Are Infected

Kalamazoo County health officials say nearly 400 residents are positive for H-I-V. But some may not know it. The county will participate in National H-I-V Testing Day on Wednesday.

Clinical Services Supervisor Penny Born says it's important for all sexually active adults to be tested.

"If you're positive with HIV and you're unaware of your status, you're more at risk to transmit it because you're not going to be careful with your sexual contacts and disclosing your status," said Born.

The free, confidential tests will be available Wednesday at the following locations:

INGHAM COUNTY

8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.: Forest Community Health Center on Cedar Street in Lansing.

BARRY & EATON COUNTIES

1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.: 1033 Health Care Dr. in Charlotte and 330 W. Woodlawn Ave. in Hastings.

KALAMAZOO COUNTY

9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.: Health and Community Services Department on Gull Road.
