Chicago-based Firm To Redevelop Lansing's City Hall Building

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero has announced that Beitler Real Estate Services has won the bid to redevelop the city hall.

The Chicago-based firm, which was among four bidders, will redevelop the former Lansing State Journal building at 120 E. Lenawee St. into the new city hall.

Beitler's $42 million development plan was selected by the city's internal and external review teams.

"The corner of Michigan and Capitol will soon become an important emblem of Lansing's accelerating momentum and continuing transformation as a city and region," Bernero said.

Lansing's current city hall building will be transformed into a brand name hotel.

The top floor of the shortest building is expected to become a "boutique specialty restaurant."

The agreement includes a proposed 99-year ground lease between the city and Beitler for the current City Hall site.

The firm's plan will not require state or city financial assistance or tax incremental financing also known as TIF.

The president of the firm, Paul Beitler, graduated from Michigan State University.
