As spring planting season begins, Michigan farmers are getting new guidance on protecting their workforce from the coronavirus.
Ag officials have published an advisory outlining best practices to ensure their workers remain healthy.
It includes many of the same hygiene recommendations now in force for the general public.
Michigan relies heavily on seasonal workers who arrive each year from Mexico, and the Michigan Farm Bureau’s Bob Boehm says their health is a priority.
“They’re screened at the border, and part of our goal is to have daily screenings at the farm, just to make sure that people are staying healthy and safe and not spreading it to themselves or the rest of the workforce,” says Boehm.
The advisory also includes tips for farmers to develop an emergency plan to ensure their operations continue if any workers do become ill.
