Cathy George and No.17 Ranked Spartans Look To Rebound After Early Finish to 2016-17 Season

WKAR

MSU women's volleyball coach Cathy George talks with Current Sports host Al Martin about the upcoming season. The Spartans will host the Green and White exhibition game at Jenison Field House this Saturday at 4pm.

Soon enough, Michigan State students will return to the banks of the Red Cedar. With them, return the MSU volleyball team, hungry for revenge after yet another second-round exit in the NCAA tournament. WKAR's Current Sports host Al Martin recently caught up with coach Cathy George at volleyball media to get her thoughts on how she plans to get over the "second round curse," as some of her players have called it.

George also touches on her team's trip to Italy this past summer, and how a trip like that to a brand new country with brand new surroundings, including a quick drive past George Clooney's house, can help a team come closer together.

It's no secret that success has walked hand-in-hand with George during her tenure at Michigan State. She ranks 22nd among active coaches for total wins, and ranks among the top 80 coaches of all time with a .607 win percentage. She is just thirteen wins away from becoming the winningest coach in Spartan volleyball history and needs only three more wins to reach 600 victories on her career. But despite all these accomplishments, George's eyes remain deadlocked on the success of her No. 17 ranked Spartans entering the 2017-18 season. Will this be the year they break the second round curse?
