Eleven people were given tickets for violating health orders in East Lansing on Saturday, the busiest day for police in the city since students returned to Michigan State University this fall.
Deputy East Lansing Police chief Steve Gonzalez says citations were issued throughout the day, mostly for gatherings related to Halloween and the MSU football win in Ann Arbor that day.
Gonzalez says gatherings of 250 to 300 people were broken up downtown and in the Cedar Village area, where two people were arrested for setting fires. “Those arrests are definitely associated with the post-game activities," explains Gonzalez, "but there were other arrests throughout the day as well.”
There were no health citations issued in breaking up the gatherings. Gonzalez says it was more important to disperse the crowds rather than take five or ten minutes each to write individual tickets.
