Several former Michigan congressmen have joined a national effort called the ReFormers Caucus, hoping to change the campaign finance system. Current State talks with former congressman Bob Carr about the group’s efforts.

Money has always played a huge role in American politics, but since the U.S. Supreme Court Citizens United ruling in 2010, the financing of political campaigns has become even more controversial. Superpacs spend big money on campaigns, and often, the names behind that money are kept secret. It’s gotten to the point where a group of former lawmakers is beginning to work on reforming how political campaigns are paid for.

Current State's Scott Pohl talks with a founding member of the ReFormers. Bob Carr represented East Lansing in Congress for 18 years.

Scott Pohl is a general assignment news reporter and produces news features and interviews. He is also an alternate local host on NPR's "Morning Edition."
