Renee Knake has been appointed to the MSU Board of Trustees by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has filled a vacancy on the MSU Board of Trustees.

Renee Knake is currently a professor at the University of Houston Law Center, where she chairs a legal ethics program. Before that, she spent more than ten years at the MSU College of Law.

According to a release from the governor’s office, she’s been an advocate for the prevention of sexual harassment and assault in the legal community.

Her appointment follows the impromptu resignation of MSU Trustee Nancy Schlichting, who resigned after serving less than a year of her term. Schlichting cited the board’s failure to greenlight an independent investigation into the Larry Nassar scandal as the main reason for her resignation.

The appointment does not require state Senate confirmation.

The next meeting of the board is December 13th.

Scott Pohl is a general assignment news reporter and produces news features and interviews. He is also an alternate local host on NPR's "Morning Edition."
